Delhi Capitals (DC) are reportedly planning to use Rishabh Pant as an impact player in the upcoming IPL 2024 tournament. This is because the DC management is expecting him to be fit and ready but they are taking it easy with his recovery and rehabilitation.
Notably, on December 30, 2022, his car collided with the divider rails on the Delhi-Haridwar highway, resulting in an accident. Rishabh Pant suffered many injuries, but he is currently on the mend and has resumed training.
The impact player rule was introduced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 and it allows the teams to replace a member of the playing eleven from already named substitutes. The rule also allows the franchises to properly manage the workload of some of the key players in the team.
“Tough & lot’s of learning,” Rishabh Pant describes the year 2023 with a social media post
As per the RevSportz report, DC is planning to use Pant as an impact player in most of the games in the IPL 2024 and he is not expected to keep wickets for the team in the season.
The return of Rishabh Pant will be a huge boost for the club, which struggled in the IPL 2023 under the leadership of experienced Australian opener David Warner. DC only won 5 of 14 games and ended ninth in the 10-team points table.
Rishabh Pant has played 98 matches in the Indian Premier League and has scored 2838 runs at an average of 34.61 and a strike rate of 147.97, with 1 ton and 15 fifties.
