IPL 2023: “I’m really fortunate and really happy”- Shubman Gill opens up on Orange Cap for most runs in ongoing IPL

Shubman Gill has 851 runs in 16 matches in IPL 2023.

Shubman Gill has 851 runs in 16 matches in IPL 2023 | BCCI-IPLGujarat Titans (GT) opener Shubman Gill talked about his wonderful outing in the IPL 2023 where he is the Orange Cap holder for most runs as his team awaits Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the final of the tournament which had to be moved to a reserve day, Monday, May 29 due to rain.

He has managed 851 runs to his name in 16 matches with three centuries and 4 fifties to his name at an average of 60.79 and strike rate of 156.43. He has hit 78 fours and 33 sixes so far in the tournament.

He became only the fourth batter in IPL history to hit two consecutive centuries in the tournament after Shikhar Dhawan, Jos Buttler, and Virat Kohli.

He recently scored his third century of the season to help Gujarat Titans defeat the Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 to put his team into the final of the IPL 2023.

It’s been great, and very fortunate, I thank the universe. But every time, like today, I have this feeling that the job is not done yet. Every time I perform and do well the next morning, I have this feeling that the job is not done yet. Once IPL finishes, the World Test Championship start. Once WTC is over, Asia Cup will be there. Once Asia Cup is over, you’ll be like ‘Oh, the World Cup is here’. So there is always something in my mind that I look forward to and (feel) the job is not done yet. But it’s been a great year so far for me and I’m really fortunate and happy for that," Shubman Gill told News18.

The cricketer has had a busy summer not only on but also off the pitch. Gill provided the voice of Pavitr Prabhakar (the Indian version of Spider-Man) in Spider-Man: Across the spider-verse's Hindi and Punjabi editions.

When asked how he managed to mix playing for Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023, preparing for the ICC World Test Championship final, and dubbing for two versions of the film, Shubman replied, "Busy is the way of life, isn't it?"

It’s been a busy year for me, but I don’t consider practising and playing as busy because that’s something that I’ve grown up with and that’s something I have been doing my whole life. It charges me up, but it’s been a busy year. It’s going to get busier with WTC and the World Cup coming this year and it’s going to be a really fun and exciting year for me," he added.
