IPL 2023: "You can't really define their legacies," Shubman Gill reacts to his comparisons with Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli

Gill has taken the cricketing world by storm with his stunning exploits in the ongoing IPL season.

Shubman Gill | BCCI-IPLWidely touted as the next all-format superstar of Indian cricket, Shubman Gill has said that the legacies of players like Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli are immortal and can't be defined.

Playing for Gujarat Titans (GT), Gill has taken the cricketing world by storm with his stunning exploits in the ongoing IPL season. The right-handed opener is leading the highest run-scorer tally with 851 runs to his name from 16 innings, including three centuries and four fifties.

After his IPL 2023 performance, there have been suggestions on social media that Shubman can carry forward the legacies of Tendulkar and Kohli.

While Gill appreciates the feelings of people, he does not read too much into it.

"See it's great when people see it but I don't really see that way because the generation that all of these people Sachin sir, Virat bhai and Rohit Sharma have inspired is beyond. Had we not won the 1983 World Cup, had there not been a Sachin Tendulkar....had we not won the 2011 world cup would I be as much inspired, maybe or maybe not. So, these kinds of legacies, things kind of things are immortal. You can't really define their legacies," Gill told ANI.

Shubman Gill was at his breathtaking best in Gujarat Titans' 62-run victory over Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023 Qualifier 2 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Friday (May 26).

He slammed 129 off 60 balls, propelling the defending champions to a colossal 233/3 in 20 overs. His knock was studded with 7 fours and 10 sixes.

With this knock, Gill pipped RCB skipper Faf du Plessis to top the Orange Cap tally this season. He also became only the second Indian batter after Virat Kohli and fourth overall in the history of IPL after Jos Buttler and David Warner to aggregate more than 800 runs in an IPL season.
