Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) captain Sanju Samson was amazing behind the stumps in his side’s match against Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2023 played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, as his stupendous catch sent back struggling Prithvi Shaw for a duck in the first over.
Rajasthan Royals were asked to bat first by DC captain David Warner who won the toss. Yashasvi Jaiswal (60 in 31) and Jos Buttler (79 in 51) hammered the DC bowlers to all over the park as they added 98 runs for the first wicket in 8.3 overs.
Then Shimron Hetmyer took over and scored 39* in 21 balls as RR finished on 199/4 in 20 overs.
DC needed a good start in such a difficult chase and one thing they didn’t want was losing wickets early. But Samson knew exactly what he had to do and handed the ball to Trent Boult, who is exceptional at picking early wickets.
And he did the same on the third ball of the first over, as he bowled a fuller length ball to Prithvi Shaw, who had come on as the impact player substitute, tried to flick it towards mid-on, bit only managed to edge the ball. The ball went quickly to Samson’s right side, where the keeper dived with amazing reflex and took an excellent one handed catch.
Shaw had to return to the pavilion for a duck, which came after his scores of 7 against Gujarat Titans and 12 against Lucknow Super Giants.
