The IPL 2023 got underway on March 31, 2023 with the first encounter between defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The toss between the two captains saw Ravi Shastri helming the affairs, however, he managed to make a huge blunder. As he began the proceedings for the toss, Shastri accidentally said ‘Gujarat Giants’ instead of Gujarat Titans; the Giants were a part of the recently-concluded Women's Premier League.
This brought a suppressed smile on the face of GT captain Hardik Pandya, who won the toss and chose to bowl first.

In this IPL 2023, the playing XIs will be finalized after the toss and it also brings in the introduction of the ‘impact player’ rule.
CSK had an excellent start despite losing Devon Conway for 1, but Ruturaj Gaikwad has kept the CSK innings together. However, GT hit back with wickets of Moeen Ali (23), Ben Stokes (7) and Ambati Rayudu (12), with the score at 131/4 in 15th over.
