IPL 2022: Cricket fraternity reacts as MI wins a low-scoring match by 5 wickets; CSK out of playoffs' race

CSK has been officially eliminated from playoffs race with this loss.

MS Dhoni made 36* to take CSK to 97 | BCCI-IPLThe 59th match of the IPL 2022 saw Chennai Super King (CSK) taking on Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium in IPL 2022 on May 12. MI was already out of the playoffs race and CSK were also eliminated after they lost this match.

Chennai Super Kings batted first after Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first on his home ground.

MI bowlers decimated the CSK batting as they were bowled out for 97 runs in 16 overs, with MS Dhoni top-scoring with 36* 4 fours and 2 sixes. Apart from him, Ambati Rayudu and Shivam Dube scored 10 runs each and Dwayne Bravo made 12 runs.

Daniel Sams took 3 wickets, while Riley Meredith and Kumar Karthikeya picked two scalps each.

Tilak Varma remained unbeaten on 34 to help MI win | BCCI-IPLIn reply, CSK bowlers, especially Mukesh Choudhary picked 3/23 as the MI top-order crumbled. The left-armer got rid of Ishan Kishan for 6 and Daniel Sams for 1 run. Simarjeet Singh got a dangerous-looking Rohit Sharma out for 18, while Choudhary handed debutant Tristan Stubbs a two-ball duck.

However Tilak Varma showed maturity beyond his age and remained unbeaten on 34 with 4 fours and with help of Hrithik Shokeen (18), and Tim David (16*) took MI past the finishing line in 14.5 overs with 5 wickets in hand as MI finished on 103/5.

Daniel Sams was named the Player of the Match for his 3/16.
