The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) clashed at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai on May 12 in the 59th match of the IPL 2022 and there was some controversy right as the match began.
Rohit Sharma of MI won the toss and chose to bowl first knowing the nature of his home ground. MI dropped Kieron Pollard from the XI on his birthday, bringing in 21-year-old South African Tristan Stubbs. And also, Hrithik Shokeen replaced M Ashwin. CSK came into the match unchanged.
However, there was some confusion as umpires were informed that the Decision Review System was not working due to some technical and electrical issues, but the match was started.

However, controversy erupted as Devon Conway was given out LBW as Daniel Sams trapped him in front of the wicket with an inswinger on the second ball of the first over of CSK innings. Conway wanted to take a review but was told that there was no DRS available and a perplexed opener walked back to the pavilion.
Non-striker Ruturaj Gaikwad had a word with the umpires. Even MI captain Rohit Sharma joined the conversation as Conway continued his slow walk back to the pavilion.
To rub salt on the wounds, the replays showed that in all probability the ball would have missed the leg-stump and Conway would have survived had the DRS technology been available.
This resulted in Twitterverse raging on social media and slamming the BCCI and IPL for having a working DRS before the match got underway, as it cost CSK a wicket. Some even went onto blame the Ambanis, which own the Mumbai Indians franchise.
