Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant refused to make off-field excuses and credited Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for outplaying his team after they suffered a heavy defeat of 91 runs in the 55th match of the ongoing IPL 2022 at Navi Mumbai's DY Patil Stadium on May 8.
However, Pant did reveal that some of his team members were suffering from stomach infections, while on the match day, one of DC's net bowlers tested positive for COVID-19, forcing the entire contingent into isolation in their hotel rooms.
Rishabh Pant said at the post-match presentation: “CSK outplayed us in all departments. As Delhi Capitals we have played a lot of close games, there had to be a game where there is a massive difference between the two sides and unfortunately we are on the receiving end. I thought we were getting better but that is not the case.”
This defeat at the hands of CSK has dented DC's chances of playoff qualification majorly. They now have 5 wins from 11 matches and need to win all the remaining 3 matches to have an outside chance of making it into the final four.
He further added, “The only thing we can look forward to is the next three matches, if we win them then we will qualify. There is a fair bit going on amongst us, especially COVID-19 and we had a few stomach infections, but we are not making an excuse and we just want to keep improving.”
The skipper signed off by saying, “Right now we can be more positive and that's what we are going to be talking about to the boys, let's be more proactive, and let's be in a good frame of mind to make good decisions in the next few matches.”
