IPL 2022: "That for me has been the standout feature of IPL", Kohli on how the league shaped his career

The star batter revealed how sharing the dressing room with the best players helped him.

Virat Kohli | BCCI/IPLVirat Kohli may not be in top form in the current edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), but he is still the tournament's all-time leading run-scorer with 6499 runs, including 5 centuries and 43 half-centuries. Kohli has always credited the league for helping him grow as a player.

The veteran batter stated what he felt was "the most essential element" about the IPL that helped him enhance his game ahead of the franchise's match against Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday (May 04).

While speaking on RCB’s show on Star Sports, he praised the IPL for allowing him to compete against and learn from the best players.

"Like so many other people, IPL has had a big influence and impact in my life. I think outside of playing for India, IPL gave me the platform to show my capabilities, compete against the best in the world, and share knowledge with them," he said.

“I think that was the most important thing that added a different dimension to my understanding of the game. This helped me move ahead in a very progressive manner,"

"I was picking brains of people that probably I wouldn't have come across otherwise on things like how to play in different conditions and what mindset they have," he added further.

"You know, people have different ways to succeed so it can't be just one template. So I used to be so excited and grateful for the opportunity to pick their brains and just learn from them day in and day out and that's for me has been the standout feature of IPL," he said.
