Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma on Sunday (24th April) expressed his disappointment after the loss against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Match 37 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. He admitted that they didn’t do well with the bat and should’ve chased the target.

MI’s losing streak in the IPL 15 continued as they suffered their eighth consecutive defeat of the season. The Rohit-led side faced a 36-run defeat at the hands of LSG. Bowling first, they had a decent outing as they kept taking wickets at regular intervals. However, KL Rahul held one end and smashed his second ton of the season to help his side post a total of 168 runs on the board.

Chasing the target, skipper Rohit Sharma came out with positive intent and tonked LSG bowlers all over the park for his 39-run knock. But there was no support from the other end and MI themselves tumbling at 67/4 after a decent start.

Tilak Varma (38) and Kieron Pollard (19) kept their side in the hunt but in the end, the pressure got better off them as they failed to chase the target.

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Rohit Sharma admitted that they didn’t bat well as they played irresponsible shots and they should’ve chased the target down.

“I thought we bowled pretty okay. It was a good pitch to bat on but we didn't bat well enough. We should have chased that down. When you have a target like that, you need those partnerships which we couldn't do. Some irresponsible shots including mine,” Rohit Sharma said.

Sharma said that they have failed in ensuring that one of their batters bats long and wins the matches for the side.

“They bowled well in the middle. We haven't batted well in the tournament. You have to ensure one of the batters bats long, but we have failed to do that in this tournament. Some of the opposition players have done that and that has hurt us,” he said.

Talking about Tim David’s inclusion in the playing XI, Sharma said that they want to give longer rope to the players who are already playing and they don’t believe in chopping and changing way too much.

“Looking at how the tournament has gone, every player has come into the discussion. We want to make sure whoever gets a chance, they get a run in the XI. So we try not to make too many changes. Whoever plays should get enough opportunities, that's how I look at it,” he said.

MI will next face Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Saturday (April 30) at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.
