Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting on Monday (4th April) reflected on the loss his side suffered against Gujarat Titans in Match 10 of the IPL 2022 season. He admitted that they have played average cricket so far and should’ve won both the matches they played.
DC opened their IPL 2022 campaign with a staggering win against Mumbai Indians. The Rishabh Pant-led side snatched victory from the jaws of defeat as Lalit Yadav and Akshar Patel’s heroics took them home.
They then suffered a disappointing 14-run loss against Gujarat Titans (GT) in their second match of the tournament. Bowling first, Mustafizur Rahman’s superlative effort of 3/23 on debut for the franchise restricted Gujarat Titans to a total of 171/6.

DC then started poorly with the bat and lost three wickets inside the powerplay. Skipper Pant tried hard and scored 43 runs but none of the other batters went past the 26-run mark as they suffered their first loss of the season.
Speaking to the whole team in a video posted on DC’s YouTube channel, Ricky Ponting admitted that they have played ‘pretty average’ cricket so far and should’ve won both the games they played.
"Well done, the result didn't go our way but we've so far played what I would think is pretty average cricket. Pretty average cricket so far and we should have won two games. That's the positive we take out of it,” Ricky Ponting said.
Pointing said that he doesn’t expect his side to be the best at the start. But by the middle and back end of the tournament, they should be at the top of their game.
"I don't expect us to be at our best right at the start. We're taking baby steps forward, right? By the middle and the back end of this tournament, this team is going to be up and about and we are going to be playing better cricket than anybody," he said.
The Rishabh Pant-led side will next take on Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday (7th April) in Mumbai.
