IPL 2022: MI skipper Rohit Sharma fined INR 12 lakhs for slow over-rate against DC

MI suffered a four-wicket defeat at the hands of DC in their IPL 2022 opener.

Rohit Sharma | BCCI/IPLMumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma has been fined Rs 12 lakhs after his team maintained a slow over-rate in their IPL 2022 match against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Mumbai on Sunday (March 27).

"The Mumbai Indians have been fined after they maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on March 27," the IPL said in a statement.

"As it was the team's first offense of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses, Mumbai Indians Captain Rohit Sharma was fined Rs 12 lakhs."

Mumbai Indians lost their first match of the Indian Premier League 2022 against Delhi Capitals by 4 wickets. 

Coming to the match, MI won the toss and elected to bat first, and thanks to Ishan Kishan's 48-ball 81, the team scored 177/5 in their 20 overs.

DC was reduced to 72/4 while chasing 178. However, Shardul Thakur's cameo (22 off 11 balls) and the unbeaten 50-run partnership between Akshar Patel (38* off 17 balls) and Lalit Yadav (48* off 38 balls) helped their team pull off an incredible victory. 

Wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav bagged the Player of the Match award for his outstanding bowling figures of 3/18 in his four overs.
