England skipper Joe Root said that despite the Test series loss against West Indies, he’s very passionate about leading the side and taking the team forward.

England suffered a disappointing 10-wicket loss in the third Test against West Indies to lose the three-match series 1-0. Asked to bat first, the Joe Root-led side were bundled out for just 204 runs in their first innings. The hosts, in reply, then posted 297 runs on the board and took a 93-run lead.

Batting in the second innings, the visitors yet against displayed a poor show as they suffered a massive collapse and were all out for just 120 runs, setting West Indies a target of just 28 runs. The Kraigg Brathwaite-led side chased the target in 4.5 over and clinched the series after the first two matches ended in a draw.

Following England’s debacle, skipper Joe Root has received a lot of flak for his leadership skills. Many fans want ECB to sack him as the captain of the side. Even former English cricketer Steve Harmison suggested that the right-hander should give up the role.

Under Root, England has just managed a single win in their last 17 encounters. They recently suffered a 4-0 drubbing in the Ashes 2021-22 and now with a 1-0 loss against West Indies, his place as a captain in the side is under the scanner.

However, Root made it clear that he wants to lead England in Tests and take the team forward with the support he got.

"I think I've made it quite clear how I feel about this team. I'm very passionate. I feel I've got the support of the men behind me to take the team forward. That's not changed at all,” Joe Root said.
