Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli on Friday (September 24) said the defeat against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) should hurt the team after being in such a good position initially. CSK beat RCB by 6 wickets after chasing down 157 runs in 18.1 overs.

RCB couldn't post a par-total despite a 111-run opening stand between Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal. They scored only 66 runs in the last 10 overs and lost 6 wickets which turned the game completely.

"Giving a game away when we knew, could have really put them under pressure, and won this one. It should hurt everyone when looking to win this tournament and go all the way. It should hurt guys that we gave away a great opportunity, which is acceptable as long as we are willing to learn from it," Kohli said in a video posted by RCB.

RCB head coach Mike Hesson said the pitch was tough to bat in the end but he felt they should have got 10-15 runs more. "170 would have been a good score, everybody saw it got harder and harder to bat, the pitch was always going to be tough to start. 6/66 in the last 10, we would have wanted 10-15 more than that. You would have certainly wanted a few more runs," he said.

Earlier, speaking at the post-match presentation, Kohli said: "The wicket did slow down a bit. But I feel we left out 15-20 runs out there. 175 would've been a winning total. Didn't bowl consistently. Didn't show that much courage I guess with the ball."

CSK comfortably chased down the target after Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ambati Rayudu contributed 38 and 32, respectively. Faf du Plessis also scored 31 runs and he was involved in a 71-run partnership with Ruturaj for the first wicket.
