IPL 2021: KKR break four-match losing streak with a clinical outing against PBKS

KKR restricted PBKS to a below-par 123/9 and chased down the target with 20 balls to spare.

Eoin Morgan starred with the bat in KKR's big win over PBKS | BCCI/IPLPunjab Kings (PBKS) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) faced each other in the 21st match of IPL 2021 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Monday (April 26).

Opting to bowl first, KKR restricted PBKS to a below-par 123/9 in 20 overs. Prasidh Krishna (3-30), Sunil Narine (2-22) and Pat Cummins (2-31) did the bulk of the damage with the ball.

Mayank Agarwal was the top scorer for Punjab with 34-ball 31 but Chris Jordan was the stand-out contributor, scoring 30 off 18 balls.

Chasing the target, KKR got off to a terrible start as they lost Nitish Rana (0), Shubman Gill (9) and Sunil Narine (0) with just 17 runs on the board. However, the duo of Rahul Tripathi and skipper Eoin Morgan added 66 runs for the fourth wicket to steady the ship.

Even though Tripathi was dismissed in the 11th over for 32-ball 41 and Andre Russell got run-out on 10, Morgan (47* off 40 balls) held the one end firmly and took the team over the line with five wickets in hand and 20 balls to spare.

Brief Scores:

PBKS – 123/9 in 20 overs (Mayank Agarwal 31; Chris Jordan 30; Prasidh Krishna 3-30) lost to KKR – 126/5 in 16.4 overs (Eoin Morgan 47*; Rahul Tripathi 41; Mohammed Shami 1-25) by 5 wickets.
