BCCI to back inclusion of cricket in 2028 Olympics

The 2022 IPL season will see 10 teams participatingThere is a lot of good news coming from the 89th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the BCCI at Ahmedabad, which was held on Thursday.

As per sources, a 10-team IPL in 2022 was approved by the board and it was also decided that the BCCI will back International Cricket Council’s bid for cricket’s inclusion in the 2028 Olympics after some clarifications from International Olympic Committee.

Not only this, but the domestic cricketers will also be duly compensated in case the Ranji Trophy or the Vijay Hazare Trophy is not held due to Covid-19, in what is already a severely curtailed domestic season. The Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy is scheduled to be held from January 10 to 31.

The idea to compensate the domestic cricketers adequately was mooted by BCCI secretary Jay Shah,” a reliable source told TOI on Thursday.

Apart from this, the BCCI also increased the insurance cover of cricketers from Rs 5 lakhs to Rs 10 lakhs. It also gave a huge benefit to all umpires, match referees, and scorers as it increased the retirement age from 55 to 60.
