Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan has yet again proved why he is one of the best spinners in T20 cricket after the cricketer returned with his best-ever figures in the format during Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) crucial 88-run win over Delhi Capitals (DC) in the ongoing IPL 2020.
The SRH spinner spun a web around the DC batsmen on Tuesday (October 27) to record the most economical spell (4-0-7-3) of the ongoing IPL 2020 campaign at the Dubai International Stadium.
While bowling an incredible 17 dot balls in his four overs in Dubai, Rashid finished with the best figures (3/7) in the ongoing Dream11 IPL 2020 so far to help the SRH successfully defend the massive total against DC to be in the race for the playoffs of the tournament.
The 22-year-old’s latest exploit has taken his tally to 17 in 12 IPL 13 matches, making him the third-highest wicket-taker in the ongoing IPL 2020 only behind DC speedster Kagiso Rabada (23 from 12) and Kings XI Punjab pacer Mohammad Shami (20 from 12) in the list.
Following his magical spell, Rashid was elated to be able to contribute to SRH’s win over the top-ranked DC on Tuesday and insisted he always focuses on delivering the best for his team whenever he gets the opportunity, saying “a clear mind” and not to think about scoreboard are key for him.
Rashid said after the SRH v DC IPL 13 game in Dubai: “I always have that thing in mind that whenever I have an opportunity to bowl, I always focus on delivering the best for the team. What I`m mainly focusing on is to bowl economically, whether I get wickets or not. Dot balls help me to get wickets and it also helps the other end to get wickets.”
The spinner further explained, “I just go with a clear mind. I never think about the scoreboard -- what the target is, what`s a good score if we bowl first. I always think I should bowl in the right areas. As long as you bowl there, you can trouble anyone. You got to play with the batsman`s mind. Keep mixing it up seeing what the batsman is trying to do.”
At the moment, SRH is placed at the 6th spot on the points table with 10 points and Rashid insisted that they are just taking one game at a time as they don’t want to put extra pressure on themselves by thinking about reaching the playoffs of the ongoing IPL 2020.
Rashid signed off, “We do not focus on what is going to happen. We just need to focus on what we can do on the game day... If we think about qualification then that we will put extra pressure on us.”
