Jubilation in KXIP camp after super over win vs MI | BCCI/IPL

Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) batsman Mayank Agarwal showed nerves of steel to hit the winning run to beat the defending champions Mumbai Indians in the first-ever double super over the encounter in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 on Sunday (October 18) in Dubai.

After both the original match and first super over ended at the same score on Sunday, Kieron Pollard helped MI score 11/1 in the second super over bowled by KXIP’s Chris Jordan.

Chasing 12 runs for a win, Chris Gayle hit the first ball for a six off MI’s in-form pacer Trent Boult before Agarwal cracked two successive fours to help KXIP register an incredible win to keep their IPL playoff hopes alive this season.

Following the thrilling win over MI in the dramatic IPL 13 match, Agarwal has opened up about those emotions running throughout the super overs while saying the 36th match “will go down in history”.

Agarwal said in a video shared by KXIP on Twitter: “I think there are so many emotions running through our heads. It's unbelievable. I think this game has to go down in history. I think for the first time we have played a Super Over followed by a Super Over. We are happy that we are on the good side of it.”

On the mindset the team had to go into the second super over, he noted: “The only thing in our head was whatever they score, we got to chase it.”

Agarwal signed off by saying, “I spoke to Chris Gayle and we decided we are just going to go and when he got a six off the first ball it was pressure off us and pressure on them and we were just looking to still hit the ball and watch the ball and execute the plans and it did work for us.”
