KXIP continues to bench Chris Gayle
The same match between KXIP and RCB saw the return of ‘Universal Boss’ Chris Gayle in IPL 2020, as he played his first match after his team had lost 6 out of the previous 7 matches of the tournament. Gayle made 53 with 5 sixes and 1 four and helped in KXIP winning their second match in triumphant fashion.
Before that Gayle was battling a stomach bug for a few days, but the Punjab team management’s decision of not starting with Gayle right from the start shocked many fans and experts alike. The left-hander has an envious record in the league with 4537 runs in 126 matches with 6 centuries and 29 fifties and the highest score of 175*. His strike rate is 150.33 and he has hit 331 sixes so far.

Therefore the rationale behind keeping him in the dugout was lost on the public. Though Rahul and Mayank did extremely well at the top, with both having scored a century in the tournament each, KXIP was constantly losing matches, and the inclusion of Gayle might have helped with the fragile batting in the middle order that has hampered the franchise so far.
Gayle showed his worth in his first game of the IPL 2020 but batted at no.3 for them and hopes are high that KXIP continues with him for the remainder of the matches.
