Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma is ready to compromise on his usual opening batting position if the situation demands. He has done it in previous seasons as well.

Rohit has also batted in the middle order for Mumbai in the past seasons. This year, he will be starting with the opening spot and will be open to any requirements further in the tournament.

Mumbai Indians are starting the tournament with a face-off against Chennai Super Kings at Abu Dhabi on September 19.

“I think I opened the entire tournament last year and will continue to do that even in this year,” Rohit said during the virtual press conference organized on Thursday.

Rohit's ideal batting position is in the top order and he admitted it gives him maximum satisfaction, but he doesn't want to put a full stop on a batting order change.

“I keep all the options open, whatever the team wants, I’m happy to do that. I enjoy batting at the top of the order, I’ve been doing that for a while, I really enjoy that. Even when I play for India, the message from my side to the management is that do no close any doors keep all the options open, I’ll do that here as well,” he said.

MI head coach Mahela Jayawardena is pairing up Quinton de Kock with Rohit at the start of the tournament. “Having options in the squad is always great Lynn is obvious a great addition. Quinton has been phenomenal for us, his combination with Rohit has really worked. So why fix something when it’s not broke? So we’ll look to continue with that,” Jayawardene said.

“But having Lynny as an option gives us flexibility. We try and add more value to the team so that we are not predictable. But definitely Quinton and Ro have been a great combination for us.”
