Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend MS Dhoni is likely to miss the upcoming IPL 2026 game against Delhi Capitals (DC) that will be played on May 6 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Dhoni has been out of action since suffering a calf strain before IPL 19 began.
Since then, there has been a wait to see MS Dhoni in the field. He has batted and kept wickets in CSK net sessions. However, he has not come to ground for the games, instead choosing to work on his fitness.
Now Cricbuzz has reported that the former CSK captain has opted to stay back in Chennai and has not traveled to Delhi for the May 6 match in IPL 2026, and will undergo rehabilitation for his calf injury.
Although it is clear that Dhoni is still not prepared for a match, the team has not ruled out his participation in any games during the current campaign. There are five games remaining in CSK's season.
"He should be available at some stage," a senior team official told Cricbuzz.
After the DC game, CSK will host Lucknow Super Giants on May 10, followed by the return leg against Rishabh Pant's side in Lucknow on May 15. Then, they face SRH on May 18 and will then go to Ahmedabad for their final league stage game against GT on May 21.
This season, Dhoni has not participated in a single game. Actually, on May 25, 2025, over a year ago, he played his final IPL match versus GT. With four victories from nine games, the Super Kings are ranked sixth in the standings.
The Cricbuzz report also gave an update on the availability of Mumbai Indians legend Rohit Sharma. Sharma has not played the last five games for MI, having suffered a hamstring injury on April 12. He was seen undergoing some fitness drills at the Wankhede Stadium ahead of the LSG game on May 4, 2026.
However, as per the report, the MI team management has left the decision entirely to Rohit himself on whether to play the home game against the Lucknow Super Giants on Monday night. Rohit might choose to play given the significance of the Monday night match.
