Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Rohit Sharma is known for his popularity amongst fans and even the ground staff. He is known for being willing to take time out to meet them and greet them, and is happy to pose for photos or sign autographs.
He has been out of action for the last few games due to an injury, but was seen in good spirits ahead of MI’s upcoming IPL 2026 game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) that will be played on May 4, 2026, in Mumbai.
MI held an optional training session, and Rohit Sharma showed up for the same. Although he has been on the verge of returning on multiple occasions, his availability remains unknown.
Meanwhile, an incident happened where Rohit Sharma seemingly injured a groundsman, and stopped his batting session, and rushed to him with first aid.
“When Rohit Sharma sir told us to remove the off-side net, we did so and stood at the side. Just then, while I was wrapping the ripe fruit and not paying attention to the players nearby, the ball hit me on my left knee. Rohit sir immediately came and inquired about the injury, but I told him to continue batting and not to bother. Yet, he returned with an ice pack and also sent someone to give me some medicine and a spray to put on my leg,” groundstaff member Siban Biswas, 27, told Mid-day.
Biswas was torn between pain and joy when he got the opportunity to shake hands with Rohit.
“It was mixed feelings... though my knee was in pain, but at the same time, it felt good because I got a handshake with Rohit, sir,” added Biswas.
MI are currently placed ninth in the IPL 2026 points table, with just two wins from nine matches, followed by bottom-placed LSG.
