The BCCI Men’s Selection Committee on Wednesday (September 16) announced India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming home ODI series against the West Indies, starting September 27 in Thiruvananthapuram.

Shubman Gill will lead the side, featuring batting stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Yashasvi Jaiswal returned to the squad as reserve opener.

With the Asian Games in Japan running from September 24 to October 3, overlapping directly with all three West Indies ODIs, the likes of Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah were unavailable for selection.

This forced the selectors to consider alternatives. In Iyer’s absence, KL Rahul has been named the vice-captain. This vacancy also opened up a selection door for Ruturaj Gaikwad in the middle-order.

Kishan’s unavailability opened the window for Dhruv Jurel’s inclusion as wicketkeeper-batter in the squad behind Rahul.

Seam-bowling all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who has been out of action since the end of the IPL 2026 season in May, remained sidelined from the ODI squad. Nitish Kumar Reddy is the designated seam-bowling all-rounder in the squad.

With Axar unavailable due to his commitment to the Asian Games and Harsh Dubey nursing injury, veteran spin all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja regained his spot in the 50-over format. Kuldeep Yadav is the premier spinner in the squad.

The fast-bowling contingent saw the return of Mohammed Siraj, who will spearhead a relatively new-look attack featuring Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Brar, and Auqib Nabi. Along with Nabi, Punjab all-rounder Naman Dhir earned his maiden ODI call-up.
