Abhishek Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakaravarthy | GettyIndian players were the flavor of the recent update of the ICC T20I players rankings on September 16, 2026. Men in Blue got a huge boost in T20I batting and bowling rankings thanks to their amazing performance in the ongoing T20I series against Afghanistan in Delhi.

India now has the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked batters in the T20I player rankings, as Abhishek Sharma dethroned Sahibzada Farhan to move to the second spot in the rankings. This came after Sharma made 82 and 39 in the first two T20Is. Ishan Kishan has held onto his No. 1 spot in the rankings, with scores of 42 and 38* in the series.

Coming to the T20I bowling rankings, Varun Chakaravarthy moved two spots up to 5th after his 1/16 in the first T20I against Afghanistan. Unfortunately, Varun has been ruled out of the rest of the series due to a side strain he suffered in the first game.

Varun wasn’t the only bowler making his comeback to the Indian team after injury, as Jasprit Bumrah also came back in the blue jersey after missing the Sri Lanka Tests and Zimbabwe T20Is due to a knee injury he had suffered in England ODIs.

Bumrah has picked two wickets in two T20Is against Afghanistan and hence has moved seven spots up to the 10th spot. Apart from him, Arshdeep Singh (up 11 spots to 14th) and Axar Patel (up six places to 27th) all made ground following some decent efforts in the Afghanistan T20Is.

Rashid Khan remains the No. 1 ranked T20I bowler in the world with 744 rating points.
