Legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar has lauded young India keeper-batter Dhruv Jurel for his gritty 90-run knock in the first innings of the 4th Test against England in Ranchi. Resuming from his overnight score of 30, Jurel added another 60 in the first session on day 3.
He, along with Kuldeep Yadav (28), added 76 runs for the 8th wicket and propelled India to 307 runs, reducing the final deficit to 46 runs. Jurel was just 10 runs short of a deserving century when Jurel clean bowled him with a wonderful ball.
Gavaskar hailed Jurel for his "presence of mind", likening the youngster to legendary India captain and wicketkeeper MS Dhoni.
"Watching the presence of mind of Dhruv Jurel makes me think he's the next MS Dhoni in the making. Today he missed out on a century but make no mistake this young man will go on to score many centuries because of his presence of mind.” Gavaskar said on Sports 18 during commentary.
“Of course, he has batted well, but his keeping, his work behind the stumps has been equally brilliant. Just by looking at his game awareness, I want to say that he is another MS Dhoni in the making. I know there can never be another MSD but you know the presence of mind that he has, MSD also did when he started. And Jurel has that game awareness. Street-smart cricketer,” he added.
For England, Shoaib Bashir completed his maiden five-wicket haul.
