India completed a 2-0 whitewash of Bangladesh in the recent Test series at home, thanks to a superlative performance in the second and final Test in Kanpur on October 1. This was India’s 18th consecutive Test series win at home.
After more than two days of waiting due to rain and a moist field, Bangladesh resumed their first innings on the fourth morning at the Green Park stadium, with a draw being the most likely of three outcomes.
Indian bowlers and fielders put on a fantastic performance, first skittled Bangladesh for 233 before the batters unleashed mayhem, hitting the quickest team 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 to revive the seemingly dying Test.
India declared on 289/9 in 1st innings and then bowled Bangladesh out for 149 in the second innings. Set 95 runs to chase, India completed the chase quite easily with 7 wickets in hand.
Along with batting and bowling, Indian fielding was top-notch. From Rohit Sharma's one-handed catch at mid-off to Mohammed Siraj's one-handed miracle and Yashasvi Jaiswal's crisp collection in the gully, Indian fielders' stunning catches left an indelible mark.
The performance was worthy of fielding medals. In a video posted to the Indian cricket team's Instagram account, fielding coach T Dilip praised his players' ever-improving performance, highlighting the contributions of skipper Rohit, Jaiswal, Siraj, and KL Rahul.
He compared Rohit’s catching with the reliability of a Swiss watch and the star batter reacted in his typical fashion, almost embarrassed by the public praise.
“When it comes to catching, I think he’s as reliable as Swiss watch. Rohit Sharma,” Dilip said drawing a wide smile from Rohit and applause from the entire dressing room.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Mohammed Siraj won the ‘Impact Fielder of the Series’ medals.
“Whether it’s humidity in Chennai or the weather in Kanpur, I feel one thing was constant – the intent to convert those half chances into game-changing moments, very much evident. Special mention to our slip cordon and closing catchers. In conditions where reflex and concentration were tested, we were spectacular,” Dilip said on India fielders.
