Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Gautam Gambhir were over the moon after Team India conjured up na 7-wicket win over Bangladesh in the second Test in Kanpur on October 1, 2024.
After bowling Bangladesh out for 233 in the first innings, India went after their bowling in their first do and put on 285/9d in 34.4 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal (72 in 51), Rohit Sharma (23 in 11), Shubman Gill (39), Virat Kohli (47 in 35) and KL Rahul (68 in 43 balls) starred with the bat in an unprecedented onslaught.
India managed to break world records for fastest team 100, 150, 200, and 250 in Test cricket with their blistering batting.
After taking a 52-run lead, India took 2 wickets of the Bangladeshi team for 26 runs at stumps on day 4. India knew they had to bowl out Bangladesh quickly on day 5 to have a chance of winning.
But Bangladesh managed to creep up to 90/3 at one stage when Ravindra Jadeja picked 3 wickets in no time to reduce them to 94/7. Despite Mushfiqur Rahim’s fighting knock of 37, Bangladesh was bowled out for 146 runs.
Set 95 runs to win the Test and the series, Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed 51, while Virat Kohli made 29* as India won by 7 wickets. This was India’s 18th consecutive Test series win at home and they pocketed the series 2-0.
After the victory, India head coach Gautam Gambhir received Virat Kohli at the boundary and gave him a warm hug. Kohli and India's captain also shared a hug as India consolidated their no.1 position at the WTC 2025 points table with 8 wins from 11 Tests and have 74.24 PCT with 98 points.
