IND v NZ 2023: Cricket fraternity claps as Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill hit tons; add 212 for opening wicket

New Zealand captain Tom Latham won the toss and chose to field first given the shorter boundaries of the venue and revealed that one change was made with Jacob Duffy coming into the XI. On the other hand, India rested both of their premier pacers Mohammad Shami and Mohammed Siraj, and played Umran Malik and spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.

It was expected to be a run-fest at Indore and Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma took full advantage of the batting-friendly pitch and the boundaries and hammered the New Zealand bowlers all over the ground.

Rohit Sharma was particularly severe, while Shubman Gill was his usual self as they added 100 runs in 12.4 overs. Both the batters then continued the assault and Rohit Sharma reached his century first, his 30th in ODIs in 83 balls and was dismissed for 101 runs with 6 sixes and 9 fours.

It was Rohit Sharma’s first ODI century since 2020 and he looked dominant during his knock, taking on all the bowlers.

Shubman Gill reached his third century in four ODIs in just 73 balls and finished up on 112 runs in 78 balls with 13 fours and 5 sixes and the duo had added 212 runs for the first wicket.

The cricket fraternity on Twitter was all praises for both the batters and lauded them for their individual centuries and for the start they gave for the Men in Blue.
