India’s white-ball vice-captain Rohit Sharma proved to be the factor by which the Men in Blue got their first wicket in the ongoing second ODI against England at the MCA stadium in Pune, on March 26, 2021.
India was asked to bat first as Virat Kohli lost yet another toss and put 336/6 in 50 overs. KL Rahul made 108, Rishabh Pant made 77, Virat Kohli made 66 and Hardik Pandya made a quick 16-ball 35.
In reply, Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow added 110 runs in 17 overs, and it looked like they were going to make the Indian pay for their poor bowling in the powerplay. Roy made 55 in 52 balls with 7 fours and 1 six, when he was unfortunately run out thanks to an amazing Rohit Sharma fielding display.
Kuldeep Yadav bowled to Jonny Bairstow as he turned the ball towards the leg side. The ball was going past Rohit at mid-wicket, but he dove and incepted the ball leaving both the batsmen stranded in the middle, and by the time Rohit’s throw reached Rishabh Pant, the batsmen crossed and Jason Roy was the unlucky one to get run out.
