Indian skipper Virat Kohli, already a modern-day legend, has gone past two all-time batting legends, Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting as the fastest to the 10,000-run mark at home in international cricket.
Kohli now has 10,002 international runs in 43 Tests, 96 ODIs, and 37 T20Is at home. He averages 61.74 in international cricket played in India with 32 centuries and 48 half-centuries across formats.
Still chasing his 71st hundred at the highest level of the game, Kohli scored 56 runs off 60 deliveries in the first ODI against England. When he got to 54, he got the five-digit mark in home games.
Virat Kohli required 195 batting innings to reach the milestone. He has now toppled greats Ricky Ponting and Sachin Tendulkar down the list. While the former Australian skipper took 219 innings, Tendulkar took 4 more to get to 10,000 international runs playing in home conditions.
The Indian skipper has become the sixth cricketer to get to such a mark after Ponting, Tendulkar, Mahela Jayawardena, Jacques Kallis, and Kumar Sangakkara. The last three players took 224, 229, and 236 innings respectively.
Kohli also has the best batting average playing at home among players with at least 5,000 international runs in their respective home countries.
