India skipper Virat Kohli is going through a century drought as he scored his last hundred in international cricket on November 23, 2019, against Bangladesh. It has been a year and 122 days since he has reached the three-figure mark.
But if Kohli scores a century and manages to end his dry spell in the first ODI against England on Tuesday (March 23), he will equal India legend Sachin Tendulkar's record of most ODI hundred by an Indian batsman at home.
The 32-year-old has 43 hundreds in ODI cricket and 19 of them have come at home while Tendulkar had scored 20 centuries in India.
Apart from this record with Tendulkar, if Kohli gets a ton in Pune he will leave former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting behind for the most centuries in international cricket as a captain.
Both Kohli and Ponting are currently tied with 41 international hundreds as captain. Talking about only ODIs, a century on Tuesday will equal the number of hundreds between them as captains in this particular format with 22 tons.
The India captain had last scored a hundred in ODI against West Indies at Port of Spain on August 14th, 2019.
If Kohli manages to continue the form of the recently concluded T20I series against England, we may see a hundred from him in the upcoming three ODIs. He smashed 80*, 77*, and 73* in the series and scored overall 231 runs in 5 matches.
