Resuming their innings from 263/3, the visitors dominated the Indian bowling attack on the back of skipper Joe Root’s masterful double century.

Root, who was unbeaten on 128 overnight, played a marathon knock of 218 before getting out to left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem. He became the first batsman to hit a double ton in 100th Test and his knock was laced with 19 fours and 2 sixes.

Apart from Root, all-rounder Ben Stokes played a brilliant knock of 82 while opener Dom Sibley had struck 87 on the opening day to propel England to a gigantic total.

For the hosts, lanky pacer Ishant Sharma was the pick of the bowlers on the second day as he took two wickets. Jos Buttler and Jofra Archer were his victims.

For his stunning display with the bat, Joe Root once again received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
