IND v BAN 2019: Ishant Sharma talks up his exploits in D/N Test against Bangladesh

IND v BAN 2019: Ishant Sharma talks up his exploits in D/N Test against Bangladesh

Ishant took 9/78 as India won by an innings and 46 runs to cap off a 2-0 Test series victory.

Ishant gave a performance befitting the tag of India's bowling leader | APAfter India's win in the first Test against Bangladesh in Indore, team's most experienced pacer Ishant Sharma asked his younger partner Mohammad Shami what exactly is he doing better to pick more wickets.

While Shami couldn't articulate his exploits as much, it was perhaps his ability to generate contrast swing and seam movement off the deck that came to the fore as Ishant who depends more on conventional swing in this phase of his career watched in awe.

But the tables turned in less than a week's time with the pink ball in the historic D/N Test in Kolkata when in different conditions Ishant swung the ball a mile to scalp 9/78 and earn "Player-of-the-Match" award in India's innings and 46-run victory. He was also named "Player-of-the-Series".

"Shami told me to give him whatever I'm carrying in my pocket (laughs). We enjoy each others' success as fast bowlers. I'm just hitting the right areas and sticking to my plans," the 31-year-old said after the match.

Ishant had been beating the left-handers across a lot without much reward. So instead of waiting for the one that takes the edge, he developed this incoming ball that cuts the surface and brings the bowled and the LBW in play.

"We developed that in the last game (the leg-cutting ball coming into the left-hander from round the wicket) and we had chats with the bowling coach and batting coach who thought it was a fluke," he said.

"But I bowled that ball deliberately and I did the same this game. When we started it didn't swing and last night it swung and we adjusted to the conditions very well."
