As India is gearing up for its first-ever Day-Night Test at Eden Gardens against Bangladesh, veteran off-spinner R Ashwin is hopeful that the historic pink-ball Test will mark the new beginning of the traditional format of the game in the country.

He feels the day-night Test match timing would certainly improve the number of spectators in the ground which would definitely inject new energy into the five-day format of the game in India.

Ashwin said at Nerolac Cricket Live on Star Sports, “I just hope this marks the beginning of where we get huge crowds coming into the stadium and Test cricket gets its credit and obviously with the change in timings people can afford to finish their work and come into the game, watch it and enjoy it.”

Meanwhile, India pacer Mohammad Shami, who has been ruling the Test cricket over the past two years, mentioned the areas that batsmen should be careful in the pink-ball Test.

Shami noted, “The middle session should be the main focus for batsman while using the pink ball, unlike the morning session that is usually considered the most important in a Test match as it will have more of a swing in Eden Gardens.”

Noteworthy, Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team arrived in Kolkata earlier on Tuesday for the second and final Test – which will be Day-Night affair at Eden Gardens to be played from November 22 after thrashing Bangladesh by an innings and 130 runs in Indore Test.
