Bangladesh Cricket Board on Sunday (October 27) confirmed it has received a proposal from BCCI to play one of the two World Test Championship fixtures on the next month's tour of India as a Day-Night pink-ball affair at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Both India and Bangladesh are among the four Test playing nations who are yet to feature in a Day-Night Test since the first ever Test of this kind between Australia and New Zealand was played in Adelaide in 2015.
"They [BCCI] have proposed [Day-Night Test] us and we will let them know after thinking a while," BCB cricket operation chairman Akram Khan told reporters. "We have received the letter two or three days and we will take a decision in this regard but we have not discussed about it. We will let them know about our decision within one or two days."
BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury said a final decision on the matter will be taken only after a detailed discussion with the players and team management.
"At first we have to take the consent of the players and members of the team managements about it. It is totally a technical matter [playing day-night Test from skill perspective] and we have to consider that there is preparation required to play a Test with a pink ball," Chouwdhury said.
The news comes after former India skipper Sourav Ganguly's take over as the newly elected BCCI president. Ganguly, who has previous as well expressed his support of the pink-ball D/N Test idea, had just recently revealed that national captain Virat Kohli is "agreeable" to the plan as well.
While India rejected Australia's plan for a traditional Day-Night Test in Adelaide last year, Bangladesh also has previously done that when New Zealand bid to host one. Both due to lack of game time in the newest form of Test matches for their cricketers.
Bangladesh will begin its month long tour of India with the first of three T20Is on November 3. The Test series then starts on November 14 in Indore. The second Test in Kolkata from November 22 will be a historic occasion anyway as Bangladesh visits the city for a Test for the very first time.
