IND v AUS 2023: Cricket fraternity reacts as Virat Kohli hits 28th Test ton; his first after 1205 days

India batting marvel Virat Kohli finally broke the drought of centuries in Test cricket, as he completed a hard-fought ton in the ongoing fourth Test against Australia in Ahmedabad on day four on March 12, 2023.

Kohli, who resumed on 59 runs, continued to nudge for singles and doubles and didn’t hit a single boundary in the first two sessions on day four of the Test match, while Ravindra Jadeja threw his wicket away at the other end. He got a bit of support from KS Bharat who looked good for his maiden Test fifty but got out for 44 runs after hitting 2 fours and 3 sixes in his knock.

Virat Kohli had last scored a Test century in November 2019, against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata in what was India’s first-ever day-night Test match with the pink ball. Since then, he had waited for 1205 days for a century in Test format.

In fact, that was his last international century for over three years, a drought that ended with his maiden T20I century against Afghanistan in Asia Cup 2022 and then he broke his barren run in ODIs as well, scoring a century against Bangladesh in December 2022.

However, he had not scored a century in Tests since November 2019, and he ended the drought when he flocked Nathan Lyon for a single and celebrated by removing his helmet, raising his bat in acknowledgment, and also kissing the necklace, which had become his trademark lately.

As Tea was called, Virat Kohli walked back to the pavilion at 135* with 10 fours to his name, with Akshar Patel (38*) for company and India at 472/5, still 8 runs behind Australia's 480.

Not only was Kohli relieved after getting to the milestone, but even the fans and members of the cricket fraternity were happy for the batter.
