Team India are dominating Australia in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home as they won the first two Tests inside three days.
While the hosts thrashed Australia by an innings and 132 runs in the opening Test in Nagpur, they won the second game in Delhi by six wickets.
As a result, the Rohit Sharma-led side has taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the four-match series and a win in the third Test in Indore will guarantee them a place in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, scheduled to be played at The Oval from June 7-11.
If India secure a spot in the WTC final by winning the Indore Test, they are likely to have less than 10 days of preparation in the build-up to the marquee game with IPL 2023 slated to finish on May 28.
Therefore, the India team will consider simulating English conditions and personnel in the fourth Test against Australia in Ahmedabad, said skipper Rohit Sharma.
"There is definitely a possibility of that," Rohit told reporters on the eve of the third Test. "We have already spoken about it. We need to get the guys ready for it. The important one is Shardul Thakur, because he comes into the planning for us. We don't know how ready he is since he has just gotten married. We don't know how many overs he has bowled. But that thought process is definitely there. If we do what we do here and get the result we want, we might think of doing something different in Ahmedabad for sure."
There's every chance that India and Australia could meet again in the WTC final. Australia need to avoid a 4-0 series sweep in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 to book a place in the ICC World Test Championship final.
“It'll be a different ball game, for both teams actually," Rohit said. "Actually, I don't want to talk about the World Test Championship. We're not there yet. We have to win this game and then talk about it. That'll be the right thing to do.”
"Just speaking of it from the outside... I don't think England is going to qualify, so both teams who are going to play the final will be neutral teams. It's going to be exciting. There's no home advantage, no conditions advantage. You know India has played a lot of cricket in England over the last couple of years. Australia have also played a lot of cricket there. Sri Lanka and South Africa are also in the mix. They probably have played a lot of cricket there as well. It's not going to be alien conditions as such [to those] who'll make the final. It'll be a good contest between the two teams, whoever those teams are."
