Ravichandran Ashwin wreaked havoc on the Australian batting line-up, claiming a five-wicket haul in the second dig to script an innings and 132-run victory for India in the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test in Nagpur.
After the game, the veteran off-spinner interacted with skipper Rohit Sharma for bcci.tv and said that he is looking forward to contribute more for him as a bowler and batter.
"This is my first five-wicket haul with you as my captain, it's been a pleasure actually. I have had a lot of meaningful conversations, I have enjoyed having those discussions in the middle. I look forward to contributing more for you as a player both as a bowler and a batter," Ashwin told Rohit.
"The expectations and a lot of things have changed over the years. However, I feel I'm at ease with my game and enjoying my game completely. The pressure is gone, I'm really relaxed and really enjoyed playing underneath you. Look forward to having more success along with you," he added.
The conversation between the two players started when Ashwin lauded Rohit's efforts of becoming only the fourth captain to score centuries across formats.
For India, Rohit starred with the bat as he slammed a glorious hundred (120) while Ravindra Jadeja (70) and Akshar Patel (87) scored half-centuries to take the team’s first-innings total to 400.
"Feels really good, I just got to know that this is the feat that I have achieved. It's always nice when you can add all these milestones," Rohit said when asked to describe his feeling by Ashwin.
"When I said old school cricket that means you have to come forward, try and trust your defence, not worry about what the pitch is gonna do. You just got to come to play the ball and worry about the rest later and that is what I was thinking," he further stated.
The Indian captain also heaped praise on Ravindra Jadeja's stunning all-round performance that saw him earning the Player of the Match on return to international cricket after five months.
"He is coming back after 5-6 months and for him to come back in the way he did it's a good sign for us, he is a massive player for us. He really improved a lot as a cricketer. I know he could always bowl but what I'm seeing in him the way he is batting these days is more pleasing to me."
