Team India crushed Australia by an innings and 132 runs in the opening Test in Nagpur to take a 1-0 lead in the four-match series.
On the back of skipper Rohit Sharma’s glorious 120, the hosts were on 321/7 at the close of play on Day 2, leading Australia by 144 runs in the first-innings.
On the third day, India extended their lead to 223 runs thanks to vital contributions from Ravindra Jadeja (70), Akshar Patel (87) and Mohammad Shami (37).
In their second innings, the Australian batting line-up once again fell like a pack of cards. The visitors were bowled out for a paltry 91 in just 32.3 overs to lose the Test match inside three days.
It was a listless batting display from the tourists as no one even managed to cross the 30-run mark. Steven Smith was the top scorer with 25 not out to his name.
Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was the wrecker-in-chief with the ball, picking five wickets by conceding 37 runs in his 12 overs. Shami (2-13), Jadeja (2-34), and Akshar (1-6) shared the remaining five scalps among them.
For their dominant display, the Indian team earned rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter while the Pat Cummins-led side was at the receiving end of harsh criticism.
