Despite his dismal form in the IPL 2025, Rohit Sharma is expected to travel to England. According to multiple sources, Rohit is certain to play the five-Test series.
His status in the team was jeopardized after India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to Australia, but after leading India to victory in the Champions Trophy, the 38-year-old has been given a new lease on life.
Michael Clarke, the former Australia World Cup-winning captain, believes Rohit should be part of India's squad as a leader, although he suggests changing Rohit's batting order.
Rohit's weaknesses as a Test opener were revealed in Australia, where he scored 31 runs in three Tests; thus, Clarke believes Rohit would be better suited to playing in the middle order, facing the second new ball at No. 5.
"I think Rohit still has the game. Class is permanent, and you have seen that in the Champions Trophy final. He would be an ideal No. 5. He can face the second new ball if needed, and if there are early wickets, he can hold things up as well. But Rohit loves to open and can blunt the new ball as well. If I was an Indian selector, I’d pick Rohit for England as the captain and leader," Clarke said on the show 'Backstage with Boria'.
Rohit recently batted at number five for India in the pink-ball Day/Night Test in Adelaide.
Rohit had a good outing when he last toured England in 2021, collecting 368 runs in four Tests. He struck a hundred (127) at the Oval, his maiden overseas Test century, and 83 at Lord's, which India easily won. Rohit toured England in 2018 but only got 34 runs in a single Test.
It's still early in the IPL 2025, but Rohit's scores of 0-8-13 have raised concerns once more. In an interesting fact is that Rohit has only reached 20 in two of his last ten IPL innings.
