After winning the T20I series against England, Team India was on a high in the 3-match ODI series and was the favorites to give England a tough fight, despite the recent outcomes of Australia-England ODI series.

India started well at Nottingham, with Rohit hitting a sublime century and Kuldeep’s career best 6/25 winning the ODI pretty easily. However, things went downhill pretty quickly from there on; as Lord’s saw a labored chase that was given up as early as the 27th over of Indian innings and bizarre innings by MS Dhoni.

England then outplayed India in the spin department in the third ODI as well, as an out of form middle order succumbed to pressure and India could only put up a par total in the deciding match. Morgan and Root, who scored a brilliant century, routed India to justify their no.1 ODI team tag.

Performance wise, it was a troublesome scene for India, as most the gas in the tank was emptied in the first ODI itself. Kuldeep shined throughout while batting wise, Kohli’s fifties and Rohit century were the bright spots.

COC presents to you the player ratings for Team India in the England ODI series

ROHIT SHARMA - 6/10

ROHIT SHARMA | Getty Rohit Sharma started the ODI series with a bang as he scored his 18th century in a wonderful run chase. His 137* came after a century in the third T20I and he was looking in ominous form for the ODI series. However, it turned out to be a false alarm, as he scored just 15 and 2 in his next two innings and thanks to that, India couldn’t get the starts at the top when it needed the most. Rohit ended up with 154 runs in 3 matches.

VIRAT KOHLI - 7/10

Virat Kohli led admirably and batted with gusto, but his dismissals came at the most importunate times for India and as a result, India lost the series 1-2. He scored 75 in the first match to aid Rohit chase down a decent total and hit a very good 45 in a tough chase and his wicket was the turning point for India, who lost the plot and the match from there on. He tried his best in the final ODI as well, with his 71 being the highest Indian score. But in the end, it didn’t even matter as India lost the match quite convincingly.

SHIKHAR DHAWAN- 5/10

Shikhar Dhawan can only blame himself for his misfortune in the series, as he got good starts and then threw them away twice. He scored 40, 36 and 44 in the three matches and apart from a runout, gave his wicket away when he was looking set for a big score.

MS DHONI- 3/10

MS Dhoni achieved a lot of milestones in this series as he completed his 10,000 runs in ODIs and also caught his 300th catch in the format. However, batting wise, it was a bizarre performance from MS Dhoni in the second ODI at Lord’s for which he was booed by the crowd. In a run chase that was still gettable, Dhoni completely out of sorts as he played out the overs rather than going for runs. In the final ODI, Dhoni scored 42 but looked out of touch.

SURESH RAINA- 2/10

Suresh Raina was chosen in the ODI side in place of Ambati Rayudu after he failed to pass the yo-yo test. However, just 47 runs in 2 innings with a best of 46 doesn’t really instill confidence in him as he made his comeback into the 50 over format. Raina was seen as the middle order savior for India and it seems like he missed out on a big opportunity.

HARDIK PANDYA- 3/10

Hardik Pandya was supposed to play the role of big hitting finisher and he scored 42 runs in 2 innings but hit just 3 fours in the process. He also picked just 1 wicket, while sharing his 10 overs with Suresh Raina. It was a series to forget for the young all-rounder.

DINESH KARTHIK- 3/10

Everyone was shocked to see Dinesh Karthik out of the team for the first two games. He got his chance in the third ODI and showed good intent in his cameo innings of 21 runs. Karthik showed that he should be given more chances in the middle in order to make it strong.

BHUVNESHWAR KUMAR- 1/10

Bhuvneshwar Kumar played just one game, bowled 7 overs and gave 49 runs without picking a wicket. It doesn’t seem like he is fully fit from his back problem and was rushed to play the 3rd ODI.

YUZVENDRA CHAHAL- 5/10

Chahal picked 2 wickets in three matches and wasn’t as effective as he was supposed to be against England batsmen who were weak against spin. However, if he didn’t pick many wickets, Chahal bowled with an economy of 4.50 and kept the runs low.

KL RAHUL- 1/10

KL Rahul got two chances in the ODI series as he scored 9* in the first ODI and when runs were needed from him in the second ODI, Rahul couldn’t score a single run and was dropped from the final ODI for Dinesh Karthik.

SIDDHARTH KAUL- 1/10

Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s injury caused him to miss the first two ODIs and this meant that Siddharth Kaul got to play in his place. However, he failed to pick a single wicket and with an economy of 6.72, wasn’t apt at keeping the runs down also.

UMESH YADAV- 2/10

Umesh Yadav picked three wickets as he forced his way into the ODI team. But his comeback seemed a bit pale as he didn’t have the impact that he was supposed to have been the senior fast bowler in the side. His death overs bowling still needs some tuning up as an economy of 6.70 proved to be expensive in the second ODI, as England scored 30-40 more runs and took the game away.

SHARDUL THAKUR- 3/10

Shardul Thakur got just one game for India and made the most of it in terms of standing out. First, he hit two sixes, something that India hadn’t done for more than 500 balls since the Lord’s ODI and then picked the only England wicket to fall to bowlers.

KULDEEP YADAV- 9/10

Kuldeep Yadav was the star of Indian bowling as much as Virat Kohli is in batting. Whenever Virat’s turn with bat ended, everyone looked up to Kuldeep with the ball to perform a miracle. He was amazing in the first ODI, picking up a record 6/25 which won the match for India. Though ‘Merlin’ helped England batsmen read him better at Lord’s, Kuldeep still managed to pick 3 wickets in the second ODI. But he couldn’t pick any as India defended 250 odd in the final and deciding ODI and it was a major difference between India losing and India losing without putting a fight.
