ECB considering using term 'outs' instead of 'wickets' in The Hundred

The new white-ball competition will be played under different laws.

The Hundred is due to be held this year from July 21 | GettyThe England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is considering making some changes in the key terminologies used to describe the game when ‘The Hundred’ launches this summer.

One of the notable changes that the ECB can bring to the game is changing the term ‘wickets’ with ‘outs’.

With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic doing major damage to the international and domestic fixture-list, The Hundred couldn’t be launched last year.

The 100-ball cricket event is now due to be held this year from July 21 with the inaugural game between the women’s team of the Oval Invincibles and Manchester Originals. It will be followed by a clash between the men’s teams of the same franchises on the next day.

"The Hundred is designed to make cricket accessible to everyone, and research shows that the language of the game can sometimes be a barrier," said a spokesperson for the tournament, as quoted by BBC.

"Along with our broadcast partners, we want The Hundred to open cricket up to more people, as well as entertaining existing fans, so we're discussing the clearest ways of explaining the game, but nothing's been finalised."

The new white-ball competition will be played under different laws. In the matches, a change of end will take place after ten balls and bowlers can deliver either five or ten consecutive balls. Each bowler can deliver a maximum of 20 balls per game and each bowling side gets a strategic timeout of up to two and a half minutes.
