Mumbai captain Prithvi Shaw continued his terrific form in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021, as his tremendous century helped his team beat Saurashtra by 9 wickets in the quarter-final of the tournament, chasing down the 285-run target with ease.
Saurashtra captain Jaydev Unadkat won the toss and chose to bat first at the Airforce Complex ground, Palam, New Delhi. Samarth Vyas scored 90* in 71 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes to top-score for Saurashtra.
Vishvarajsinh Jadeja’s 53 and Chirag Jani’s 53* were the other significant scores as Saurashtra made 284/5 in 50 overs. Shams Mulani picked 2/51, while Shivam Dube, Tanush Kotian, and Prashant Solanki picked one wicket each.
In reply, Prithvi Shaw and Yashasvi Jaiswal added 238 runs for the first wicket in 36 overs. Jaiswal made 75 in 104 balls with 10 fours and 1 six, before he was dismissed by Unadkat.
However, Prithvi Shaw, who had scored 227* earlier in the tournament carried on his good work and scored an unbeaten 185 in 123 runs with 21 fours and 7 sixes. He got help from Aditya Tare as well, who remained not out on 20 with 2 fours to his name.
Mumbai achieved the target in 41.5 overs and won the match by 9 wickets, moving into the semi-finals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021.
