The first ODI between Bangladesh and India ended in a thrilling one-wicket win for the host country in Mirpur, Dhaka on December 4, 2022. India had batted first and posted 186 runs with KL Rahul top-scoring with 73 runs. Shakib Al Hasan picked 5/36 and Ebadot took 4 wickets.
Bangladesh chased down the target of 187 runs with one wicket remaining as Litton Das made 41 and Mehidy Hasan remained unbeaten on 38 to take the Tigers past the finishing line.
The Bangladeshi innings saw many twists and turns as the hosts were once cruising along at 95/4 but then collapsed to 136/9 thanks to Indian bowlers who picked wickets at regular intervals, including debutant Kuldeep Sen who took two wickets in one over.
KL Rahul who kept the wickets in this match, for the most part of the match, was very good. However, at the crunch moment, when in the 43rd over, Mehidy Hasan hit one ball into the air, Rahul ran towards fine leg for the catch, but despite settling under the ball, dropped the catch despite being the one with the gloves.
In the end, that drop proved costly as Mehidy and Mustafizur took Bangladesh past the finishing line.
