Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi has denied all the reports in the Indian media of him apologizing to the BCCI and handing over the Asia Cup trophy to the UAE cricket board after the BCCI threatened to start impeachment proceedings against him.
Mohsin Naqvi had angrily left the stage after the Indian team refused to receive the Asia Cup Trophy from him after defeating Pakistan in the final of the tournament on Sunday, September 28. Since then, there has been a constant fight between the BCCI and Naqvi for the Asia Cup Trophy.
As per NDTV reports, BCCI representative Rajiv Shukla and Ashish Shelar faced off against Mohsin Naqvi directly during the virtual ACC meeting. They insisted that the Asia Cup trophy belonged rightfully to the Indian team and was not the property of any single individual.
The BCCI also asked Naqvi to formally congratulate the Indian team, which won the Asia Cup unbeaten, but he declined to do so.
However, Mohsin Naqvi took to his X account and rubbished all the reports of him apologizing to the BCCI or surrendering the trophy to the UAE board. He accused India of hurting the game of cricket by bringing politics into it and damaging the spirit of the game. He added that the BCCI and the Indian team is welcome to come to the ACC office and collect the trophy from him.
“Indian media thrives on lies, not facts. Let me make it absolutely clear: I have done nothing wrong, and I have never apologized to the BCCI nor will I ever do so. This fabricated nonsense is nothing but cheap propaganda, aimed only at misleading their own people. Unfortunately, India continues to drag politics into cricket, damaging the very spirit of the game. As ACC President, I was ready to hand over the trophy that very day, and I am still ready now. If they truly want it, they are welcome to come to the ACC office and collect it from me,” Naqvi posted on X.
Now it remains to be seen how BCCI responds to Naqvi’s invitation to collect the trophy from him in the ACC office.
