Australia batsman Steve Smith and speedster Pat Cummins have retained their pole positions in ICC Test rankings after the culmination of the highly-competitive Ashes series on Sunday (September 15).

Smith's scores of 80 and 23 in the fifth Ashes Test at the Oval have helped him extend a significant lead of 34 points over India skipper Virat Kohli, who is placed at the second spot in the batting rankings with 903 rating points to his name.

Smith had started the series in the fourth position with 857 points before his massive climb came courtesy a record-breaking 774 runs from seven Ashes innings.

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson and India batsman Cheteshwar Pujara maintained their No.3 and No.4 rankings respectively while New Zealand’s Henry Nicholls stayed at 5.

David Warner has lost seven places after the Oval Test to finish in the 24th position among batsmen. Having started the series at No. 5, the southpaw slid 19 places during the five matches with a tally of 95 runs from 10 innings.

On the other hand, Cummins is way ahead of his competitors in the bowling rankings, having secured a lead of 57 points over second-placed Kagiso Rabada. Cummins finished the Ashes series with 29 scalps to his name.

Cummins’ new-ball partner Josh Hazlewood has dropped from 12th to 8th after briefly making the top-10 among bowlers.

For England, pacer Jofra Archer has jumped into the top 40 for the first time after taking 6 wickets in the first innings of the Oval Test while left-arm seamer Sam Curran has gained six slots to reach 65th position with three wickets.
