India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is a tough fielder to challenge and steal runs from his region. When Jadeja charges on the ball, batsmen usually prefer to not take him on.

Australia batsman Steve Smith did the mistake in the third Test in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2020-21. He was run-out by Jadeja, which was probably the best run-out of the series. 

Jadeja talked about the run-out and said any direct-hit run-out is tough but this was special for him because he had only one stump to aim at.

"Steve Smith's run-out was obviously one of my best because I was near the boundary ropes. I was able to see only one stump and to target and hit that stump was a bit tough," Jadeja told Boria Majumdar in an exclusive with Sports Today.

Smith was pushing for the double off Jasprit Bumrah when Jadeja sprinted from the deep square leg towards the short fine leg area and managed to get a direct hit. 

Aiming at just one stump from that angle and covering so much ground, the India all-rounder still managed to beat the Australia batsman with his accurate throw. 

"At times you get the sense that if the batsman is playing with the tailender then he will surely try to run a double. I was thinking if this situation arrives then I will have to be ready.

"I was on deep square and there was no mid-wicket fielder so it was obvious that Smith was looking for double only. I was ready for both the catch and run-out. Any direct hit run out is tough but this was special for me because I ran in from outside the circle and then got the direct hit," he added.

Jadeja couldn't play the last Test after being ruled out because of a fractured thumb. But India still managed to clinch the series by 2-1 after a special win at the Gabba.
