India vice-captain Rohit Sharma was seen doing shadow batting on the pitch during Australia's innings on day four of the last Test at Gabba. Smith was standing with his batting partner Cameron Green as Rohit shadow batted for few seconds and walked off.

Many believed Rohit was mocking Smith with his cheeky action. The former Australia captain was caught on stump camera doing shadow batting in the Sydney Test. He had received a lot of criticism for scuffing up the batting area inside the crease.

Here is the video:

Australia captain Tim Paine had come in defense of Smith. In an interaction with the media, he had said Smith does it too often and almost in every match. The controversy died after the other side of the story came out. A video clip showed Smith's shadow batting had nothing to do with Rishabh Pant's batting guard.

The Aussie ace batter, Smith scored 55 in the second innings of the Gabba Test. He was dismissed by a vicious delivery by Mohammed Siraj. The ball took off the crack on the pitch and Smith couldn't handle the bounce. It hit his gloves and went straight to Ajinkya Rahane at slips.
