Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer reacted to Simon Hughes' comments on the trending discussion of the 'scuffing guard' controversy involving Australia cricketer Steve Smith during the third Test.

Footage doing rounds on social media showed Smith scuffing India batsman Rishabh Pant's batting guard. However, a full clip suggests the incident happened before the start of the second session's play on the last day and Pant had not taken guard.

Defending Smith on the incident, the Englishman Hughes wrote, "I have looked at the footage and I really don't think Smith was trying to cheat. He is - truly - an honest bloke. I have never heard of anyone trying to scrub out someone else's guard, he was more subconsciously remarking his own as he does every new session."
