In reply to Australia’s first innings total of 338, Gill provided the visitors with a solid start alongside Rohit Sharma, who replaced Mayank Agarwal in the playing XI for the third Test.

The duo of Gill and Rohit shared a 70-run opening stand and entertained the fans with some gorgeous strokes.

Josh Hazlewood broke the partnership by removing Rohit for 26 but Shubman carried on and hit his maiden fifty in the very second game of his Test career.

The Punjab right-hander, however, couldn’t stretch his score as he was dismissed by Pat Cummins on 50. His innings was laced with 8 fours.

For his stunning display with the bat, Shubman Gill garnered rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
